Peter Mata'utia (born 2 November 1990) (pronounced both Maa-Taa-Ooh-Tee-Ahh and Matta-You-Ty) is a rugby league footballer for the Newcastle Knights of the National Rugby League.[1]
He plays at fullback, wing and centre in the NSW Cup competition and gained selection for the Samoan national team in 2009.
Peter's grandfather Mata'utia Ilimatogafauali'i Aulaumea Petelo Sione was a Samoan Paramount chief. He is the cousin of Penrith Panthers player Masada Iosefa and Wigan Warriors player Jeff Lima. From a family of 7 siblings; Peter is number 3. He has 2 older sisters; Josephine & Janamarie; has three younger brothers; Chanel (Sileno); Pat (Tamapa'a) & Sione along with his youngest sister Sylvia.
Peter was named in the 2011 Newcastle Knights fulltime first-grade squad & debuted against the Sydney Roosters on Sunday 22 May 2011 which he scored a try in the 2nd half.

Born in Bankstown, New South Wales, Mata'utia played his junior football for the Bankstown Cougars and Raymond Terrace. He then later played for the Newcastle Knights Toyota Cup side in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He made his NRL debut in Round 11 of the 2011 season against the Sydney Roosters and scored a try in the 2nd half of the game.
In 2011 he signed a contract extension with the Newcastle Knights for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, after turning down offers from three rival teams.[2]
Mata'utia was named in the Samoan squad for the Rugby League Pacific Cup. Samoa lost to the Cook Islands in a qualifier, so they weren't able to play any more games.
